Philips AC-Powered OLED Can Lead to Cheaper OLED Production

Philips is continuing work in its OLED innovation, this time with an AC-powered OLED panel that can be plugged directly into a home wall socket. The significance of this is that traditional OLED planels using Philip's technology could eliminate a large power management circuit to switch from DC power. Eliminating this circuitry would make OLED cheaper to manufacture and would require fewer parts. This in turn could lead to greater adoption of the technology, which thus far has been prohibitively costly in large TVs.

Motorola NYXboard QWERTY Remote Takes on TiVo Slide

The TiVo Slide won't be the only QWERTY-enabled living room remote control in time as Motorola, which dominates the cable television set-top boxes, has just announced its NYXboard remote, which packs in a compact QWERTY keyboard on the rear side and a standard cable box remote on the front side. The remote's expected to be available by year's end, though it will most likely be up to cable companies to decide if they want customers to have access to a QWERTY remote.

Letting People Know Your Location Via Facebook Places Could Get You Robbed
With location-based services on the rise, and given Facebook's popularity, its recently launched Facebook Places location check-in feature should make it a good choice for you to let friends and others know where you are. The problem is, when others--those who aren't your friends--know where you are, they also know that you're not home and can burglarize your property. From what seemed to be urban legend to actual incident, the town of Nashua New Hampshire discovered just that: don't broadcast your whereabouts on Facebook, Foursquare or other such services as it could get you robbed. Fifty robberies had occurred in Nashua and local police have caught up with the burglars to discover over $100,000 in stolen property.

Lenovo Power Hub Adds USB Hub to ThinkPad Chargers

If you're sick of carrying around a separate USB powered charging hub in addition to your ThinkPad notebook and its charger, then Lenovo has you covered. The company has recently announced a Lenovo Power Hub, which adds 4 USB ports to charge up your phone or other mobile gadgets using your ThinkPad's power brick. The Power Hub connects to your ThinkPad in two spots--to one of your notebook's USB ports and also to your notebook's power port, and can power a notebook that's rated for 65W or 90W. This convenience will cost you $75, but then you get to leave the USB hub, its separate power adapter, and your ThinkPad's power brick at home and can carry just one charger. The Lenovo Power Hub is available now from Lenovo's online store.

Uber-Cheap Indian Tablet Debunked: Made in China

The super cheap Indian tablet that the government of India is claiming to have been home grown by top university minds may not be in fact true. Indian website AndroidOS is saying that the tablet is actually a re-badged tablet that was actually made in China by HiVision and was originally demoed at CeBIT this year. The top picture shows the HiVision SpeedPad on the right hand side and India's claim of its originally designed $35 tablet on the left, quickly dropping the credibility of the Indian government. Then again, Google's saying Android is not tablet-ready yet, so perhaps no loss to anyone involved.
